Most important reason: Planning ahead = Things will go more smoothly

If I have your resume, photo, emailed copy of your degree in hand:

  • I can negotiate the best possible contract for you.
  • We will work with the schools to ensure they understand your timeline and needs.
  • We choose only the schools we trust and that match your strengths. For example, if you do not want to teach a split shift, we will work only with schools that fit that requirement.
  • As a result of planning ahead, all of your accommodations will be set upon your arrival.
  • We have more control over the situation and we explain, to the schools, what is expected of them.

I do not think many Korean Hogwan owners have heard the expression, “Failing to plan, is planning to fail.”

I am not trying to sound negative, but in my opinion, many Koreans have a very different way of doing business. What normally happens is they decide at the last minute they have a teacher leaving, and they have no replacement. First, they will beg, plead and maybe even try and force the current teacher to stay longer. When this option is exhausted, they rush to put an ad out through a job posting service website. This rushed process causes them to exaggerate the pay, or to glorify the situation in hopes of getting someone quickly. This just means frustration to the teacher once they arrive. It also means the company will want you to drop everything in your life (job, house/apartment, friends, family) the next day to fly here. To make matters even worse; this rushed process will mean you will not have your Work Visa arranged prior to arriving here, meaning you will be working illegally, and can be deported. Also, because they “Need” you so badly, they may also delay your Work Visa trip to Japan as long as they can once you are here.

Dream jobs you see posted that have you working 10 hours a week, and paying HUGE money are simply not realistic. “If something seems too good to be true…
